The Little Red Caboose Story

Early in 2002, the Deerfield Beach Historical Society received the donation of a 1951 Seaboard Airline Caboose. It has been resting on sidetracks of the FEC Railway since that time….that is, until now.

Recently, it was treated to a quick ride to a “temporary” new home on land (former Deerfield Builders Supply Company lot, now owned by Stor-All)……in preparation for its refurbishing. Although in good shape, the caboose needs repairs and paint to bring it back to its original state.

Once the exterior is restored, it will travel to its permanent home near Deerfield Beach City Hall, adjacent to the Old School Museum, for interior renovations. Upon completion, it will be opened to the public as a focal point for educational programs aimed at visitors, residents, the children of Deerfield Beach and all of South Florida.

YES, I’d like to help restore The Little Red Caboose to its original state!

My name will be proudly listed on the Caboose Honor Roll which will be posted inside the Caboose.

With my donation, I want to be:

  • Engineer – $10,000 +
  • Conductor – $5,000 – $9,999
  • Brakeman – $2,500 – $4,999
  • Station Agent – $1,000 – $2,499
  • Flagman – $500 – $999
  • Passenger – Amount up to $499
